Chihuly at Cheekwood

I checked out the new Chihuly at Cheekwood exhibit and loved it! It's seriously worth the $15 bucks to get in. I'd recommend going later in the day on a Thursday or Friday when they have the Chihuly Nights deal. I bet those sculptures would look great lit up at night.

Cheekwood

What a huge contrast in the weather this weekend compared to last weekend. Though I was in Chicago last weekend and missed out on the torrential rain, I'm very thankful for the beautiful weather Nashville has experienced the past few days. On Saturday I went with a few friends to Cheekwood. I went back in the fall (here and here), but ran out of time and didn't get to see the many botanical gardens. This time, I headed there first!

This past weekend my dear friend Elizabeth (I call her Kitty) came to town! You met her back when I was milling about Alabama. We spent the weekend, eating, shopping, and taking photos, which is typical when we get together. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the weekend:

The same day Heather and I trekked around the Marathon Village we spent a little time downtown. I definitely need a super-duper wide angle lens. Or, I need the trees to go away and I need to be able to walk on water. That's the only way I can get far enough away to get all that I need/want in a shot. 

Anyways, here are a few shots that I don't hate:

Nashville has a lot of old structures. I love old buildings. Especially when they have had little work done to them. A few weeks ago I took a co-worker along for some picture taking (thanks, Heather!). We spent most of our time at the old Marathon Automobiles building. It was quite cool and we were surprised to find that part of it is in use.

So, we know that Marathon was open from 1907 - 1914. We assumed that was the year it was built as well, but later I noticed another part of the building that read 1881. Either way, this is an old building.

Not sure why I think this is cool, but I like it.

I love old signs. We came across a little cut out area with a gate that had lots of signs stored away. I was tempted to sneak one away, but resisted... for now.

Unfortunately, the back part of the building has collapsed. Kinda a lot collapsed.

That's all. I didn't get any pictures on the LONG drive there. Pretty sure we circled the place a time or two before finding it. Nor did I get pictures of the hearse graveyard across the street (sorry, Heather).

milling around: nashville

Recently I parked my car up on the roof at work and took a little hike around downtown Nashville, across the Shelby Street Bridge, through the L.P. Field parking lot (where the Titans play, for you non-Nashvillians, non-sports enthusiasts, or both), and over to the unique statues next to the river. It was like 80 degrees outside and I had on jeans. Needless to say, there was sweat involved. However, I did get a few fun shots of the city that I call HOME.

I'm not sure what that thing is hanging in the middle of the statue.

There's also a much smaller red statue where this one hangs out.

I really do love where I live. For now, at least.
